Acupuncture is one of the main branches of Traditional Chinese medicine and is based on the Chinese philosophy and Taoist principles that health is dependent on the smooth flow of Qi (energy) and Blood, which run through our bodies. Qi circulates through twelve energy lines, known as meridians, within the body and each meridian is associated with a different internal organ system.

People are healthy when the flow of Qi is balanced and harmonious. Disease (or dis-ease) occurs when Qi becomes blocked or deficient. Many factors can cause this such as lifestyle, diet, weather, stress, unresolved or overwhelming emotions, trauma, infections etc.

Chinese medicine has always been concerned with maintaining a balance of health as well as treating disease, as prevention is preferable to cure, so after treating a particular condition regular maintenance can always be done to reduce the risk of further issues and maintain a healthier balance in life.

At the initial consultation, a very thorough case history will be taken to identify and understand the pattern of disharmony in the body. This will allow me to diagnose the way of treating the condition and put together a treatment plan, which I will discuss with you.

The treatment involves inserting needles into specific points along the Qi meridians of the body, in a combination best suited to combat the disharmony and condition which is present.
