Acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the main branches of Traditional Chinese Medicine and is based on the Chinese philosophy and Taoist principles that health is dependent on the smooth flow of Qi (energy) and Blood, which run through our bodies. Qi circulates through twelve energy lines, known as meridians, within the body and each meridian is associated with a different internal organ system. Fine sterile needles are placed around the body to influence the flow of Qi and to harmonise the energetics of the body to relieve disharmony.

People are healthy when the flow of Qi is balanced and harmonious. Disease (or dis-ease) occurs when Qi becomes blocked or deficient. Many factors can cause this such as lifestyle, diet, weather, stress, unresolved or overwhelming emotions, trauma, infections etc.

Chinese medicine has always been concerned with maintaining a balance of health as well as treating disease, as prevention is preferable to cure, so after treating a particular condition regular maintenance can always be done to reduce the risk of further issues and maintain a healthier balance in life.

 Treatment

At the initial consultation, a very thorough case history will be taken to identify and understand the pattern of disharmony in the body. This will allow me to diagnose the way of treating the condition and put together a treatment plan, which I will discuss with you.

The treatment involves inserting needles into specific points along the Qi meridians of the body, in a combination best suited to combat the disharmony and condition which is present.

Safety / Regulation

As a member of the BAcC I follow their strict Standards of Practice and Code of Safe Practice for Acupuncture and ensure a safe environment. All needles are sterile and single use only, all equipment is clean and regularly checked. Particularly in these times of Covid 19 cleaning is completed throughout the room and the room is aired in between each client. A full deep clean is completed at the end of each working day.
